Company Information
Sphagnum Ltd. is engaged in extraction and processing of high-moor peat (sphagnum) with low degree of decomposition. The peat moss corresponds to German Standard DIN 11540, Russian standards and specifications.
Main composition: marsh moss (sphagnum) with high water permeability and ability to retain moisture. Chemical composition under humidity no more than 50%:
Basic product - packaged milled peat in plastic sacks of 170 liters capacity (6 cubic foot) and 113 liters capacity (4 cubic foot), pressing degree from 2-2,2, humidity 50%+/-5.
Besides packaged peat moss, there is also distribution of milled peat moss from ledges with humidity 60%+/-10 is available for the enterprises of the region and other buyers.
Extraction of peat moss is made by vacuum method using combines from Canada. Processing into product is carried out on the Canadian equipment "Premier Tech". There is installed processing line for sorting, crushing, drying and pressing the peat under pressure into plastic sacks with capacity of 170 liters (6ft) and 113 liters (4ft). At the present time high quality production is been supplying to Japan under the contract for 2006th year at the volume of 15500 tones. About 10000 tones is been selling out at the local market as derivative products (nutrient soil, oil sorbent, fertilizer). All products are certified for supply to different countries.
History of the Company
For the first time works on developing of the peat deposit "Ozeretsko-Pesochnoe" have begun in 1976. In 1979 first stage development was handed over and transferred to balance of state farm "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsky". Peat moss extraction had been doing by superficial milling and trench method of preparation, with following delivery to ledges. The peat moss mainly had been used for enhancement of soil in agriculture.
In 1985 the decision to organize extraction of milling peat moss by layer method for use as a laying in an agricultural production was accepted. It is created experimental-industrial sector "Mitsulevsky" on extraction of milling peat moss (designer "Giprotorf"). The Korsakov enterprise on extraction and processing of peat moss is formed.
In April, 1990 joint Soviet-New-Zeland enterprise "Sakhalin-Sovinz" is created for delivery of milling peat to export. Simultaneously in reorganization of manufacture the municipal enterprise "Sphagnum" is established, which in connection with change of a pattern of ownership, has been registered later on (in 1992) as Joint Stock Company of Closed Type "Demetra" - at the present time "Sphagnum" Ltd. Manufacture and preparation of peat basically was made by the equipment and machinery of a domestic production.
In 1996 at the enterprise the new equipment of the Japanese manufacture for thermal processing and packing of peat moss is installed. Assistance in purchasing, delivery and installation was rendered by the Japanese firm "Nichias Corporation". It is the basic customer and the buyer of packaged milling peat moss, exported to Japan.
In 2001 new more efficient equipment was purchased from "Premier Tech" company in Canada, and installed then for extracting, packing and processing of milled peat moss. It is started use of vacuum combines, that was positively reflected in end quality of made production. The firm "Premier Tech" is one of leading processors of peat moss in Canada. It makes modern equipment, machinery for extraction and processing of peat moss.
